During most of human history, the environment was something that had an impact on us, not the other way around. Now there is a growing recognition worldwide that environmental concerns are present at all levels of human activity – from the international environmental impact of big industry to the food we choose to eat. In fact, it is so hip to be green that even Hollywood has made a documentary about global warming starring Al Gore. Every Earth has its day, and our Earth Day is always on the Vernal Equinox, the first day of Spring, this year on April 22nd. There is some controversy about who actually first conceived Earth Day, but John McConnell, a founder of Earth Day, envisioned a day “when day and night are equal around the world and hearts and minds can join together with thoughts of harmony and Earth's rejuvenation.” The very first Earth Day was organized and led by Denis Hayes in San Francisco on March 21, 1970. Earth Day brings with it a plethora of activity including various festivals in every city around the world. Many teachers use this day to educate future generations about the importance of taking care of the earth. The truth is: climes, they are a-changin’. Caring about our Mother Earth is caring about the environment we live in and the ways we damage or improve it. This Top 10 list focuses on feeds that cover the big environmental issues: energy, sustainable industry, eco-conscious business practices, environmental news, and more.Related Top 10 Sources: Sustainable Living | Science News | Oceans | Women In Science

It's nice to see that the US and Europe are being joined by a third renewable energy super power.
According to projections at Renewable Energy World, China is going to be a world leader in wind power by next year!

Here is an interesting fact that should supprise you if you read mainstream media coverage of China.
"According to the California Energy Commission, the state with its 37 million people uses more gasoline and diesel than any other country on Earth except the US as a whole. That's more than India with its 1.1 billion...

Someone somewhere has a question to which the answer is nuclear power. That question is not "name a useful solution to climate change".
I`ve posted a few times about nucelar power on this blog, perhaps i shouldnt have. This is meant to be a climate change blog. However, a lot of people seem to be pushing this problem as a...

Al Gore has sketched out his vision for taking america beyond fossil fuels for electricity in the next 10 years. That sort of timescale appeals to me, not because its what is required--which it is--but because the psychology as testified with the "moonshot" rhetoric is entirely more in line with the attitude required for...

Deforestation is one of the most avoidable and meaningless sources of carbon emissions in the world. The productivity is appaulingly low. However, some of the frameworks being looked at to solve this problem have been labelled neo-colonial.
The worry is that in much of South America where much of the worlds great forests...

Sorry for the rather protracted absence. I`m back now with a few updates on the mad world of climate policy and protest from around the world.
My favourite story of recent times is from the Guardian. Apparently the odds of Heathrows' third runway being built and the odds of a new coal power plant being built in Kent are...

Complaints against channel 4's "Great Global Warming Swindle" are upheld. But the damage has already been done.

In the darkness of twilight or the soft glow before dawn, stars seem to blink and drift about in the air. While crickets chirp, cicadas croon, and various creatures scurry about, strange yellow-green speckles light up the night. What you are witnessing is no choreographed prelude to a Pink Floyd concert, no moviemaker’s...
