The National Football League is the place of dreams for millions of aspiring athletes, a source of entertainment on Sunday afternoons and Monday nights for families and the pinnacle organization of a true American pastime. Producing such icons as Joe Montana and Walter Payton, the NFL is an inspiration to athletes and sports fans. Plus, it puts on the most watched sporting event in the world: the Super Bowl.1902 officially marked the first year of the NFL, when the Pittsburgh Stars joined the Phillies and Athletics, both from Philadelphia. Today, the NFL has 32 teams in 2 conferences of 4 divisions each. There have been 40 national champions since the Green Bay Packers beat the Chiefs 35-0 in 1967. After a 21-10 victory over the Seattle Seahawks, the Pittsburgh Steelers are the reigning champs for 2006.Related Top 10 Sources: NFL Draft | The Super Bowl | College Football | Patriots | Indianapolis Colts | Rose Bowl
