The wine business has changed quite a bit from the days when most Americans knew two kinds - Mateus and Lancer's. The variety and quality of wine available now in even the most affordable price range would have boggled the minds of the connoisseurs of 30 years ago. Wines come from Chile and South Africa - and Vermont. We drink Malbec and Pinotage in the same casual manner that our parents drank Gallo Hearty Burgundy from the jug. But the sheer variety of choices - from good box wines (no longer really an oxymoron) to the most expensive cult Cabernets - can be daunting. Unless you're fortunate enough to have a master sommelier in the house, you probably need some help sorting the merely drinkable from the rapturous, the swill from the nectar. These sites focus on wine reviews from people who have already dropped the cash, popped the cork (or spun the screwcap), and taken the plunge.

Remember I said to buy any 05 Bordeaux and give it s shot; there will be some real bargains to be found from this supreme vintage. This blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon is a cranberry jelly colored wine with a bouquet of fruity wood, and chocolate covered cherries. Nice.In the mouth it is steely, a little...

This $10 sparkling wine from Vouvray France is really very nice! Made from Chenin Blanc, it is pale straw in color with a lemony melon bouquet that is understated. It is somewhat thin on flavor but is crisply made and refreshing.Somewhat non-descript but I tell you this is a "best buy" sparkler and worth seeking out! I'll...

Barry Schuler may know a thing or two about running multi-billion dollar technology companies, but what he really wants to talk about, given the chance, is food and wine. The former CEO of AOL, Schuler often gets credited along with Steve Case (who preceded Schuler as CEO) for the company's success in the late Nineties. But...

Tasting notes:Fruity nose of blueberry and mulberryDense coreDark berry finish with dry herbs and cassisThis wine is wild and untamed! It has an exotic taste of berries and herbs, and is still quite tannic. After decanting, the wine softened a bit but continued to be chewy and dense. It also has a striking dark purple...
